Chapter 1
Final Draft
Throughout the semester, there will be many challenges a student such as myself will face when it comes to studying habits. The one’s we’ve made in high school may not transition so well in college, but on the other hand, some that we have created may work with a few tweaks and adjustments. One factor that plays a big role in studying habits is our environment which every student even myself has either suffered or taken advantage of. Ultimately it comes down to how you approach the task or situation at hand by adjusting study habits, using time management wisely, and also making sure the environment your in copes with what you are trying to accomplish.
Students like me who have taken the route of “I don’t need to study to pass” have been able to slide through with decent outcomes. But to me I would like to change my decent outcomes into great outcomes, which is one of the changes I am going to have to make as the semester unfolds. In college, assignments boil down to time management. The way one makes use of their time is up to them. Waiting until the last minute doesn’t suffice anymore since every assignment given, expires after its due date.
Some of the studying habits I have are to wait until the last day to actually do a reading or finish an assigned project the night before. None of which are healthy habits to have and nor do I recommend them because they do not allow you to have the rest you need to be at full capacity to be able to maximize your learning experience throughout the day. It’s also better to know your topic or project beforehand and know it well. In one night, no student could possibly know they’re topic fully because it would take at least a week minimum to do your research and figure out which sources you’ve found provide good info and which one’s aren’t necessarily relevant to what you are trying to portray. That’s also something I would like to change and in college that is possible because there is a lot of “free time” per-say in which the student can do whatever they want before or after classes. You must be willing to get out of your comfort zone if you want to improve yourself academically.
Lastly, I would like to add that not all studying habits are bad. Most of the studying habits depend on the person. I may be a visual learner who can remember things immediately and others may need countless hours of studying to fully understand a topic. There is never just one way to go about studying, and not everyone learns at the same pace. To fix and improve your studying habits means you are able to maximize the quality information gathered to apply to your work.
